All across Europe you will find incredible variations not only of food, but also styles of cooking, ways of preparation, local delicacies and of course traditional secrets handed down over generations. Here are 5 food tours to give you an insight into countries, cities and communities.

Stockholm, Sweden. Do not tell the locals your first thought when imagining Swedish food was meatballs. Maybe do not mention IKEA restaurants either. However on this tour you will enjoy some meatballs along with other local specialities like fish soup, which is to be expected for a city set on a coast. Throw in some chocolate from a producer who has supplied royal weddings and top off this mix with one thing you have probably never heard of, let alone tasted - smoked liquorice!

Krakow, Poland. Poles will probably be the first to admit their cuisine is not as famous as some other countries in Europe, but that only makes it more adventurous right? Joining a cooking class in Krakow, you will get to join locals at the food market to buy your ingredients before heading to the home of a local to start preparing your pierogi. These are filled dumplings, well known in central and eastern European countries and can be filled with a savoury or sweet filling. Once everything is complete, sit down to enjoy your creation with a Polish family and learn more about the culture and traditions of your hosts.

Athens, Greece. Beneath the shadow of the Acropolis, this is your chance to indulge in the food of Greece! 4 hours of culinary delights await you so you had better come hungry. Dolmades, the stuffed vine leaves found all over Greece, feta cheese of course, olives naturally, pastourma which is a type of cured meat. Fresh ingredients, organic ingredients, all part of what make up the well known Mediterranean diet. With a local guide, you will be exploring the best corners of the city.

London, England. Take a trip out east and explore London's East End, not on a pub tour but rather with this speciality food tour. An area with a fascinating past, it is now home to many cool cafes, restaurants, markets and food outlets. On this tour you will get to try fish and chips (do not forget the mushy peas). You will sample a curry from Brick Lane - famous for its large number of ethnic restaurants. A bacon "sarnie" or sandwich, a cheese board full of local specialities, and a salted caramel tart accompanied by a good old English "cuppa" or cup of tea. And along the way your guide will teach you about the history of the area.

Porto, Portugal. Not as well known as Lisbon, Porto is nevertheless developing quite a lot of interest from food and wine lovers who start their wines tours of the Douro Valley from the city and have discovered plenty of local delicacies to enjoy. This food tour will last 3 and a half hours and indulge you with small dish tasting options accompanied by local wines and of course Port! Try local chocolates, tuna, cheeses, hams, olive oils and coffees and no doubt a famous custard pastry or two.
